Now that there is snow on my doorstep I am turning up the Holiday Spirit in my house. Yes, it is true, it may be a bit early for X-mas music. But Superman suggested that a mere month of awesome holiday tunes is not enough. That was pretty much an invitation for me to go ahead and play what I wanted. So yes, we have started listening to the soundtracks of the season. I mean, we do have limits, but Turkey Day is in seven days. That is why we are getting a jump start. Especially when we have 20+ hours of X-mas music on iTunes. Here are ten favorites currently on my playlist.
These are in no particular order because I love them all so much. Some new additions to my albums include the new She & Him Christmas Ablum as well as the one by Micheal Buble. However, I have yet to listen to them enough times to pick my favorite songs. Just expect a couple more playlist updates as we get closer to and further in to December.
This is an amazing song that was introduced to me by, of all people, my dad! He is a pretty hip guy, but it cannot be good when he picks better music than I do. Alas, I bow to his amazing song picking skills. I then showed this to one of my friends, she now calls the musician the ginger hippie. Pretty good discriptors if you ask me.
So here it is, straight from the ginger hippie himself.
Dream Catch Me // Newton Faulkner
Favorite Lyrics:
See you as a mountain, a fountain of God
See you as a descant soul, in the setting sun
You as a sound, just as silent as none
I'm young
Love the music. Give a listen if you are looking for something new.
Funny how things work out I think. My cousin posted this song on her facebook page a couple of weeks ago and I found it growing on me. Then today, Ashley in Wonderland posted on her blog about A Fine Frenzy, and since it was by her inspiration that I have implemented tunes on Tuesday, it only seemed fitting to follow suit.
Here is a different song from the group, one that I have listened to over and over in days past. It makes me happy, so what more can I really say? Just listen.
Electric Twist // A Fine Frenzy
Favorite Lyrics:
Picked from a hot grove,
Packaged for sale.
It drips down the sleeves,
Gets under your nails.
It is definatley a song that reminds me of summer, and man oh man, I cannot wait for that to come and come quickly. Especially since it snowed yesterday. I am frowning at it right now from my office window. Be gone!
My brother found this song for me and it was an immediate hit. Now, don't get me wrong, I like the Bieber and am in love with his bangs, but I can honestly say that Neon Trees does this song better. Sorry lil' JB, but I do love your Eenie Meenie song with Sean Kingston, so props for that.
Honestly, I like the maturity this band brings to the cover of Baby. When I think of Bieber I think of my screeching and swooning thirteen year old cousin and that is so junior high, which I haven't been for more than a decade. But the blossoming Neon Trees, whom I love, are a group more my age. Bonus! This band is local to me. I totally saw them at Target once, shopping for socks, in my dreams. Ok, ok, so it was a cousin-in-law who saw them at Target, but still, I could have seen them had I been shopping there because I go to that particular Target all the time.
So here it is, the song you love to outwardly hate, but deep down you know you play it every night before you go to sleep, and here it is in it's best version.
Baby (Bieber Cover) // Neon Trees
Favorite Lyrics: I seriously love the bridge "Stand By Me"
If the sky that we look upon should crumble and fall
And the mountains should tumble to the sea
No I won't be afraid, I won't shead no tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me
Oh and I was like baby, baby, baby.
Ah ha! Here I am, back again on a Tuesday. So far, so good it looks like. This copying of ashley in wonderland might not have been so crazy after all.
Todays song is one I heard on the radio a while ago and filed it away in the back cabinet of the back of my mind. I thought, "Hey this sounds like The Killers so it should be easy for me to find later." Then I completely forgot about it. The next time I heard it instead of saying "The Killers" at the end, the GPS radio voice listed off some random name I never heard of. Then, yet again, I forgot about trying to find the song. This last time I heard it in a resturant with my family and they all guessed it was The Killers, but I told them it wasn't, that it was some dude we have never heard of. Much to my dismay and utter shame, when The Superman looked it up that night on his phone, the dude I never heard of was Brandon Flowers, lead singer of The Killers. Needless to say I smacked myself in the forehead a handful of times. Here it is, another new one added to my library.
Crossfire // Brandon Flowers
Can't help thinking the ninja chick sorta looks like Charlize Theron, and since I am inclined to say it isn't her, then it probably is ;) Loved, loved this video and, not sure I want to admit I watched The Bachealor last night but, I can't believe those jerks totally stole the group date from this music video.
Favorite lyrics:
Tell the devil that he can go back from where he came
His fiery arrows drew their beat in vain.
And when the hardest part is over, we'll be here
And our dreams will break the boundaries of our fear.
I am back on Tuesday, if you will believe it. I honestly don't believe it, at least not yet. Maybe after the music video then I will be much more convinced.
Today I went back through my library and found a song that I forgot I loved. So I moved it to the forefront of my playlist and I am remembering over and over again why I fell in the first place. Here it is!
Shy That Way // Tristan Prettyman & Jason Mraz
The acoustic version, the only version, is in itself stunning. I think there is a point in most relationships where this sort of inner monologue happens. Goes something like: "OH EM GEE! That guy is hot. Look at him. I could just stand here all day and just...Shoot! He looked over here. Now I have to move. 'Scuse me, gotta just sneak behind you. There. Now I can see him again, but I don't think he can see me. Shoot! Again? Now he knows I keep staring at him. No eye contact, just look at the floor and pretend. Maybe one more glance." The song implies all that is awkward in the first glance and connection and I love it! I think the majority can admit to being shy that way at least once, even if it was only in kindergarten.
Favorite Lyrics:
There's always too much talking
And I wanna just keep walking
And I keep staring, baby, keep staring
Though I may not know the right things to say
I'll get it out to you one day
I am stealing this idea from a fellow blogger, ashley in wonderland. The thinking is that having a topic for a specific day will cause me to post more often. We'll just have to wait and see how THAT goes. But one thing I am re-falling in love with is music.
In the winter time I get in a rut and the rut's name is Christmas, Christmas, Christmas. Don't get me wrong, I love listening to Xmas music in the car, at work, on my iPod, all day, every day, 24 hrs a day. Luckily there is always and end in sight as well. But I have been needing an iTunes overhaul for some time now. January is always a good time to start things over and clean out the dusty cupboards, so here goes. My first official Tunes on Tuesday post to help with my lack of melodic catharsis.
I will confess that the holiday season did help me find this gem of a band. They call themselves Pomplemoose and I simply can't get enough of their unique style. To get their Christmas music you had to donate books through Amazon, and you can bet I did it. This song however, is not from that album, thank heaven, but it is a good one. Give a listen!
If You Think You Need Some Lovin' // Pomplemoose
I love the harmonies, the lyrics, and the funny faces they make in the videos. I even love her hair, not that it has anything to do with how she sings. Or maybe....I think I need another hair cut.
Some of my favorite lyrics:
If you think you need a shrink, you're draining down the sink,
Well go take a hike. (ain't got no time for your baggage)
If you think you need a fix don't put me in the mix,
Just stick to wine. (wine, wine, wine)
But if you think you need some lovin', ooooooooo, that's fine.
