My Beanie Baby

beanie baby

This baby is not a fan of beanies, or any other type of hats for that matter. But, oh how I wish he was. I wish he loved to act his mommy's doll and let me pick out all of the cute fall baby hats that are coming to stores. All of my recent efforts in hat shopping for this baby had, to this point, been in vain. Baseball hats, bowlers, and fedoras were all met with the same response: the prompt and jerky removal as soon as they hit this white blonde head. No distractions and no bribing worked. Heaven forbid I tried to hold the hat on either, because then the theatrics started, and boy does this kid have lungs. I dread the day of mall shopping with this screamer and face scruncher. He knows how to lather it on thick, especially when hats for babies are involved.

Then it happened; we found the perfect baby hat. Target, Babies R Us, and yes, even my beloved Baby Gap failed us. Then, one fated day, we found it. We found the one baby hat that does not make this boy flail his arms in revulsion. As it happens my little K.B. is a beanie baby. Ok, fine he is a big boy beanie, size M for this large headed child. He is growing up too fast, sniff. But no more of that; on to the story.

We were at Old Navy, and there it was, calling to me. It was sort of hidden in the boys section amidst some hero covered graphic tees. Someone must have tried hiding it, but my baby hat nose is too keen, especially after all of my hunting in other stores. I saw it clear from the baby girl leggings I was scoping out. (Side note: I just can't do it, I cannot get this kid girl leggings, even though they look perfectly neutral. Sorry. I want to, but can't). So, I spotted this cute, knit red richness poking out between a Batman and Superman tee. I darted right over and snatched it from its screen printed grave. It was the cutest beanie for my baby I had ever seen. I wanted one for me it was so cute.

I gave little K.B. a glance from the corner of my eye. He was happily shaking my Tic-Tacs in one fist. Casually I hid the hat behind my back, slid over to him, and slipped it over his head speedy quick. I waited for the arm flailing. I waited for the scrunchy face. I waited for the three gasp screaming. Guess what? None of it came. This baby wore this beanie like a champ. I had even pulled it down over his ears, the thing he hates, but it didn't phase him. He gave the Tic-Tacs a good shake and that was that. I had to have this hat! It made his blue eyes pop and his cheeks blush cherry. This beanie was it!

So, finally we are getting this little man ready for fall, one wearable baby hat at a time. I am excited, I am thrilled. Now you can see just how much because of the endless photos I took of him, my beanie baby. Lesson? As a mommy you can try and try again. Eventually you will have a breakthrough.

Yes, after he grabbed the seeds he tried to eat them. Apparently it is a phase?

  2. Um, if I was that kid, I'd totes let you dress me anyway you wanted. I probably would let you right now. I have no sense of style.
also, I still eat the seeds. it's not a phase. it's permanent. ha!
