Awkward and Awesome Thursday

source : my dad took this while hiking last weekend. Stunning!
Awkward
1. On Monday I pretended to be an already proud owner of a Costco membership just so I could get the strawberries and free danish being offered by a rep. Shameful really. The awkward happened when I actually took the coupons too and started yaking about what I was going to buy there this weekend.
2.  Gave a verbal survey over the phone on my ultrasound and felt like I was talking to Ferris Bueller's economics teacher. "Bueller. Bueller." I had to work hard to restrain myself.
3. Went clothes shopping the other day and asked the clerk about two tops I really liked, but couldn't decide. I told her I was pregnant and needed something with more room. Cue the awkward belly stare. "I couldn't even tell. Are you sure?" She asked. Now cue the awkward long pause where I stare between her astonished face and the bump. "Yep, pretty sure."

Awesome
1. Superman got a baby fist bump. I was laying on the couch and he came over when I told him baby was wriggling again. As soon as Superman put his palm on my belly the baby boy stopped. I shrugged. Superman then proceeded to shout, "Hey baby! It's papa." Just then baby boy gave Superman one big punch, right on his open palm. We both smiled.
2. I have pants! Pants that fit! Yoga pants, but bottom half clothing all the same.
3. Went to the gym and totally kicked butt in spin class. I think there was only one guy in the whole room and he WAS a bit old, but still, I killed him. Sorry grandpa, you can't keep up with all this.
4. Superman is home all weekend! I cannot wait. The Plan: pool time, outdoor movie in my parent's back yard, and house work. Yes, house work is awesome when Superman is home to do it with me.

Awkward and Awesome Thurdsay

AWKWARD
1. Trying to take week by week pregnancy pics in the park, now that I am half way YAY, and getting the stink eye from fellow park goers. I wanted to shout, "Hey! Your toddler just dropped his pants and is weeing on that tree! Maybe you should pay your kid a little more attention instead of creepily watching me. I already know I am odd and don't need your gawk to prove it."
2. Wanting to cause a WWF smack down at Wendy's because I am so dern hungry. Get a move on people. this is FAST FOOD. Just pick something already and be done with it.
3. Trying to squeeze into not so "maternity" swim suits. Not at all a flattering experience.
4. Waddling. Honestly I am not big enough to waddle, but I find myself just doing it for fun. In the grocery store, while mowing the lawn, even up and down the stairs. I'm pregnant and entitled to waddle even if I've only gained five pounds, thank you very much.
5. Putting mascara on only one eye this morning and then spending the rest of the day trying to figure out what was wrong with my face. Blame it on the pregnancy brain.
6. Hubby has itchy, puffy allergy eyes and a constant runny nose. He always looks like he is crying, pressing napkins and tissues to his eyes. I just tell passers by that he is just "soo excited to be grocery shopping today. Tears of pure joy."

AWESOME
1. Seeing Baby Boy!
2. Feeling the little kicks and jabs that tend to always happen just before bed. I am excited to see what kind of tantrums the little man throws in the flesh if he already hates bedtime now.
3. Library audio books you can check out for free. Honestly, I visit maybe once or twice a week. What workday? It was like an eight hour daydream really.
4. Sensuous Sandwich. That is all I can really say here.
5. Lawn fertilizer. I know most of you would not put this in awesome column, but I do. It is like Super Star Fertilizer that has already started singing holes in the hideous clover within the first day. It has powers I never imagined. I'm in love!

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

Awkward
1. This morning my computer had a cow and I was quite vocal about it. One of my coworkers actually came upstairs and asked if I was ok. Obviously not if I am talking to/yelling at inanimate objects, don'cha think?
2. Today I mixed oatmeal in with my peach yogurt. Looks pretty gross but is oh so good. I am just now starting to see how awkward some of my other cravings can be though. Pepperoncicni salad followed directly by a lime Popsicle for dessert. Anyone? NO?!? Why not? It is so good.
3. Taking The Banker (aka Mom) to look at bikes with me and having her show me up with the sales man. It is already bad enough that I need a loan from her to get the bike of my dreams, but really, having her know more lingo than me? C'mon! My "thingamabob this" and "doohickey that" were no match for her "carbon fiber composite seat post and aluminum framing." Howie, I just want suitcase number twenty three, I don't care if it breaks down, my bummy gets numb, and I can't replace parts as easy. I just want THAT bike! No deal!
4. I really need new hair. Or maybe just a trim. Either way, bedhead each morning is looking worse and worse. And even worse is the fact that I come to work with little improvement. Not good.
5. Yesterday I walked to do my work errands. That was pretty awesome. The awkward part was happening to walk by just as a load of construction workers got off. I was wearing orange and fit right in, pot belly and all. It was a baby belly poking out day.

Awesome
1. My new shoes. I am cheap, but have wanted some TOMs for a while now. Found these at the mall for cheaper, and granted little children in Africa wont get a pair of shoes off of my purchase, I am glad I got them. I think I have worn these five out of the last seven days, one of those days being Sunday.
2. I have a diaper bag people. Usually I might find this a bit pathetic, but this one is cute and I am "practicing" by carrying my things around in it. Turns out I will probably have to get another diaper bag for baby. We shall see.
3. Finally I know what it means to drive with a turbo charge. The Superman's car is in the shop again and since we are selling mine I was allowed to borrow a rental from the dealership. Snazzy! That is all I really have to say. Well, that and VROOOOOM!
4. I have a disappearing baby bump. One day everyone is telling me how cute and pregnant I am and then the next everyone says I am probably one of those girls who won't show until 40 weeks. Just wait until you see me after a full on Cafe Rio salad sister, then you will change your mind.
5. Eating a whole Cafe Rio salad. It is probably as awesome as it comes.

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

I am glad Sydney is back to her Awkwardness and Awesomest self. I am also pleased that we share some awkwardness this week. The magic belly bump and the hyperactive bladder make for some pretty strange moments, to be sure.

AWKWARD
1. Having half of my office know I'm pregnant and having the other half think I am just getting fat. When they come upstairs and see my stash of snacks their eyes get all wide and pleading, but I just clutch my tube of Pringles to my chest and shoo them away. "MY PRINGLES!"
2. Taking Hubby along to Dr. appointments. Don't get me wrong, it is nice to have him there, but not exactly comfortable when the Doc says to strip down. Thanks a lot.
3. My mom buying boy baby stuff. We don't even know the gender yet. Neighbors come over and they tell me congratulations about the little baby boy and I have to tell them that we don't know. They quizzically look back and forth between me and a box full of blue and I just shrug.
4. Weeping over selling my two door convertible. Yes, I am attached to my car. Yes, she had a name, "Sassy." And yes, I never want to let her go.
5. "Goodbye Gogie." A running joke in the family is that if I have twin boys I already have names bequeathed from my Grandmother, Hugo and Gogie. If that isn't awkward enough I made the mistake of telling my SIL about it and now her little two year old is saying "Goodbye Gogie," to my navel whenever he leaves.
6. Being unable to find "cute" elastic waist bottoms in any store and trying on every single ugly pair in hopes that something will work. I need shorts people!

AWESOME
1. My Superman talking to the bump in my belly. He will give me a hug, kiss, and tell me he loves me. Then he rubs the baby and says, "And I love you too!" I love this.
2. Family carnival. We had soooooo much fun gathering together, eating, and playing the carnival games The Superman built. It was the perfect day.
3. Seven nephews and water guns. I just can't get enough.
4. Hawaiian Pizza. I just cannot begin to say how awesome it is to get this pizza just for me since Superman doesn't like pineapple on his pizza. This could literally be my breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
5. My garden is planted and there are about ten perpperoncini plants. Take that!! Oh, and some tomatoes too, but only five of those. Cravings anyone?
6. I am a tigress at heart. Just discovered it this past weekend when I found this awesome mask on the prize table. Guess that is why I was born in the year of the tiger. In fact, I am a FIRE tiger. Even better.

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

Awkward
1. The weather today is drizzly and windy, not a good combo for my hair. No amount of hairspray can contain it.
2. Yesterday a co-worker came up and asked my office mate and I if we wanted to go to lunch with him. We both said no in unison. This is because the last time he took us to this hole in the wall where they put an entire chicken leg, bone, skin, fat and all, in some soup. Ick!
3. Watching reruns of Castle and watching my favorite parts over and over. Luckily there was no one to witness me quoting along with the television.
4. Galoshes. Just say it twice and you will be smiling. What an awkward word, and they are even more awkward to wear around because they squeak so much.
5. Sweating up a storm at the gym and then having to stop at Target on my way home. I just pull up my hood and tighten the strings, probably drawing even more attention to myself.

Awesome
1. I can finally see my "spring break" at the end of my March calender. Pretty awesome! I cannot wait to go south and have nice weather.
2. Singing Bon Jovi songs at the top of my lungs and still, two days after the concert, loving them.
3. Girls Night Out is tomorrow and I can't wait to get together with my friends.
4. The Superman agreeing to do the dishes because the smell of them in the sink makes me want to pinch my nose and run to the bathroom. We don't like the dishes chore, which is why we never cook at home.
5. The picture above was taken a couple years ago in early April. I cannot wait for the world to look like this again. This year I am planting a garden and it will be awesome.

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

Awkward
1. Today I am wearing a rubber band and I have to switch wrists every time I complain aloud. No one has noticed yet, but that is probably because my office is still empty except for me. Let the complaints come rolling in once my co-workers arrive.
2. Yesterday lots of rain, white shirt, no umbrella. You do the math and you can bet it equates to alot of outdoor scrambling on my part.
3. Singing in front of an audience. Luckily it was with other people, but I still don't know if I looked happy to be there. I tend to frown when I sing anywhere other than the car and shower.
4. Playing Wii 007 with my Superman and Little Brother (who is in fact in his 20s) and thinking killing one of them deserves a round of applause.
5. My dog likes to junk punch. It is always awkward when she is out and males come through the door.
P.S. Not wearing green on the most Irish day of the year. Nice goin'. This is going to get awkward.

Awesome
1. BON JOVI CONCERT!!! It is happening next week and I am getting excited. Pictured above is a Life House concert I went to and it might be kicked to second best concert ever once I have seen Bon Jon on stage.
2. Contrary to my above statement about rain, I really do love it. My favorite is when it is smacking hard against the bedroom window while I fall asleep, Superman snuggling beside me. Heaven will be like this for me.
3. Whole grain toast, something I had for breakfast today. Not so much the toast I love, but the incredible smell that wafts through my kitchen.
4. I bought a mango the other day. How awesome is that? Now I just have to decide what to do with it. Ice cream? Fruit tart? Mangos, coconut milk, sticky rice?
5. Superman's Bday is tomorrow, but he works, so we celebrate today. I am looking forward to a nice dinner out.

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

Awkward
1. Showing my hubby old pictures of me in High School. Braces make everything more awkward. Can you see me? I would honestly be amazed if you guess right.
2. Working hard not to flick the flapper out of my nose, but also feeling like everyone and their dog can see it. Tissue? Kleenex? Anyone!?!?
3. Texting "Don't spill the beans." You should try it some time.
4. Smiling around a mouth full of delicious Oreo cookie icecream when Superman tries to make me laugh. That will teach him.
5. My stapler is going through a mid life crisis right now or maybe it has PMS. Either way, I probably should stop being nice to it and just tell it to get over it and do its job already! But that might be awkward.

Awesome
1. Wore my cute slippers to work today. Not house shoes, cute slippers. I will probably have to post a picture so you don't think I am some kind of slouch.
2. The Superman's willingness to make me melted cheese and pickle sandwiches for dinner, knowing full well that it means he won't get any kisses for the rest of the night.
3. The movie "Get Low." If you like going to a brainless, no thinking necesserary, action packed movies, then you will probably hate it.
4. Seeing "Rango" with my cousin, brother, mom, dad, and Superman. I didn't hate it and I laughed out loud on several occasions. Mostly I just loved the gigantic bucket of popcorn that only cost $2.50.
5. Waking up with some sunshine. It is not exactly warm outside, but it is getting there slowly.

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

AWKWARD
1. Researching Canon Rebel xti remotes and knowing more about the products than the sales staff at the local camera store. I hate after market!!! But had no choice.
2. Listening to my own voicemail greeting. "Hi, you have reached London's cell phone and I must be away from my phone. Please leave a message and I'll try to call you back soon." Anyone need a polite, generic, awkward VM greeting you know who to call.
3. Pretending to listen to my coworker while I type this. I laugh, smile, and turn my head once in a while, but have no clue what she is talking about. "Yesterday you ate a meatball sub? Excellent! Oh, your doctor thinks you might be suffering form severe strep infection and the whole side of your face is swelled up like a baseball? That's nice." Nod, smile. Turn back to the moniter.
4. Going to spin class yesterday, and walking around today. I look like a cowboy! What's worse? Sitting down.
5. Testing out my new remote and deciding that it is not nearly as trustworthy as the one I lost, and telling it so while people wander past. Yep, always a crowd pleaser.

AWESOME
1. Eating nachos (pictured above). My mom ate them practically every night while she was pregnant with me, so naturally I am an expert.
2. Starting work on my novel, again. I love picking it up, reading a page, and thinking Man, I would actually read this is it were a book. It’s ok to think of yourself as awesome, right? ‘Cause I am.
3. Hearing that my cousin is coming to visit me this weekend. Now I actually have a reason to clean my house, and yes it might be crazy, but I think that is awesome.
4. My dog is a genius! Today she understood the word shower. I said it and she scrambled into her kennel because she hates the shower.
5. Writing out my accounting at work with a sparkly blue gel pen. It was all I had at the time and you can guess how awesome that was.

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

Awkward
1. Trying to quietly get dressed in the dark while my Superman, just back from the night shift, tries to sleep. Do my socks even match?
2. Taking 30 for 30 pictures with the timer because I lost my remote. I can only imagine how awkward that looks.
3. Texting my SIL to come to the gym with me and totally forgetting she needs a babysitter for her two lil boys since her husband works. Nice one!
4. Using a picture of a shroom for my desktop background. People who walk by always stare.
5. Listening to my iPod non stop for the last four hours. I always DDR my way up the stairs to my computer and let's just hope no one ever sees me.

Awesome
1. My Superman has four days off coming up. I cannot wait to share the weekend with him.
2. I have established a better budget. It only took four years, but it feels pretty awesome.
3. Plans to hit the gym tonight. Always something to look forward to after a long day at the desk.
4. Sushi! Nothing more.
5. Today I brought yams raw to eat. They are delicious, kinda like carrots but sweeter. My MIL introduced this snack to me and I can't get enough.

Awkward and Awesome Thurs

At it again. I have the Awkward and Awesome list started and it doesn't seem to stop. Luckily I will stick with my traditional 5 and 5 for you poor readers who don't need to hear every detail of my not so Awkward and Awesome life.

Awkward
1. On Valentines day I backed into a parked car. Ok, it was a parked truck. A big, nasty, fat bumpered truck. As soon as I heard the crunch I pulled back into my parking spot, got out of my mushed bumper car, and scrambled back and forth like a chicken with my head cut off. Awkward for anyone who saw it. Luckily there was no one around and I scribbled out as legible of a note as I possibly could. No damage on the truck, 700 bucks to fix my bumper :(
2. This morning I made my husband take pics of my outfit. He works the night shift on a crazy schedule so he was in his Superman pj pants while I was prancing around in my 30 for 30 outfit. Yes, it was awkward.
3. I got a paper cut between my ring finger and my middle finger. No I am not flipping you off, my cut just hurts like CU-RAZY! Blow on it. Shake it. Blow on it. Nothing helped, and I looked like a lunatic.
4. Icy snow storm last night led to icy sidewalk this morning. Nearly fell on my can, in a skirt, in the parking lot, near my office. Yes, there was windmill arm spininng actions involved. Yes, I looked around to see if anybody saw. Yes, someone saw. Nice!
5. Ate a mountain load of sushi last night and now my stomach is making obnoxious gurgling sounds. Not quiet ones. Loud, frog like sounds. Then I go and tell it to shhhhhhhh! That gets me some strange looks.

Awesome
1. I got a voicemail from the big bumper truck owner who I hit on Vday. He said he didn't see anything, that he was glad I took the time to leave a note, and that he wasn't going to worry about the truck. He also said he hoped my day went better. Nice of him, no? Made me feel good to know there are still nice, awesome people out there.
2. My coworkers have yet to notice that I am wearing the same clothes for 30 days. Pretty awesome.
3. I got to eat a mountain load of sushi with friends and my hubby. We are probably doing it again soon! So awesome.
4. Everyone I know is getting new phones. My dad, my sister in law, my backyard neighbor three houses down, her dog. Usually this would feel pretty crummy, but I love my technologically challenged phone that I use to text and make calls and thats all. It is a pretty awesome phone, to me at least.
5. The new friends I made at sushi might want to do a triathlon sprint with me this year. It is always more awesome to train with other people instead of doing it all on your own.

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

Yet another awkward and awesome Thursday is upon us and I am starting it off with a bang
This morning I have already:

AWKWARD
1. Been one of those people on the street you try to avoid because they are hosting a conversation with themselves and you're scared they might just stop and ask you to join in.
2. Had 1000 strange looks in my car on the way to work becaues my favorite song came on and I had to have an instant jam session to start the day off right. "Marry You" by Bruno Mars, in case you wondered.
3. Put my boots on the wrong feet. Yep, sorry all you two year olds out there, you are not the only ones who can do this and still look cute.
4. Eaten dry raisin bran cereal for breakfast out of a zip lock back. Always awkward, I thought while I dug with my fingernail at my back molar.
5. Ladies toilet in my building is flooded, so I get to hustle all the way across the street to go. That will be fun.

AWESOME
1. Planned my date with The Superman for tonight. Yes he is home and yes it will be totally awesome!
2. Brought Triscuit crackers and Laughing Cow cheese for lunch today and I think that is totally awesome because I usually forget to bring anything and then go out and spend beaucoup bucks on a burger. Not so awesome.
3. Went for a run. Granted it was from my car into my office, but hey, it's a start.
4. Put on mismatched socks, and that is awesome becaues with my boots on not a soul can tell.
5. Had all green lights on the way to work. The Gods wanted me here on time today and I will take it as a sign of more awesomeness to come.

Feb 3, 2011

Awkward and Awesome Thurs

AWKWARD
1. Anyone else think the word awkward just looks awkward, especially in all caps. AWKWARD! See? No? Hmmm, well, that was awkward.
2. Like Sydney of The Daybook, I too am suffering from some online-gender-mistaken-identity, except I am the one being mistaken. I do freelance writing, all of it online, and this guy made a referal for me, but called me a guy saying that I always deliver my articles on time. Should I take that as a compliment?
3. I have yet to correct said guy for calling me a guy, and that makes me feel a little awkward inside, but I am still smiling, so...
4. My water bottle has been leaking all morning and spilling on my pants in the worst way. Yep, I just barely noticed. So now I have to wait until it dries before I can actually leave my desk to go down and use the bathroom.
5. When my boss came and told a co-worker and I that he was leaving for the weekend to go out of town I did a silent, but extremely wiggly cheer behind his back. Just then he poked his head back around the corner and I had to pretend I was reaching for some files. I don't think he was convinced. Eek!

AWESOME
1. Today there will be another 30 for 30 post, at least that is pretty awesome for me. The photo taking itself is not the most comfortable thing, but I am liking the end result.
2. I just booked three more freelance jobs not five minutes ago, Ka-Ching!
3. While cleaning out my winter coat pockets I found $20, surprise. I had forgotten all about it. Ka-Ching again!
4. The sun is shining brightly! Though it is still cold outside, I can at least wear my awesome shades, making the cold seem not so bad, when I am in my car, with the heat cranked up, and my mittens on, and my scarf up over my nose, and my shades on. I call this look incognito. Perhaps this would have worked better in the awkward section, no?
5. The weekend is only one sleep away and The Superman will be home to share it with me. Pretty awesome!
